Anvil
The Anvil is our signature cocktail, lovingly created by legendary bar tender Jonnie Scotland who mixed a balanced blend of Drambuie and 10-Year-Old Arran Whisky, a spoonful of Marmalade, a squeeze of fresh orange juice, and crushed ice, to produce a drink that is punchy, mature, and uber-classy.
It acquired its name from a 120kg anvil that sits in the grounds of The Douglas Hotel and which, astonishingly, local strong man Davy Ballantyne (known as ‘Big Davy’ to his friends) managed to heave to the top of Goat Fell, raising money for charity along the way. Hotel owner Sean Henry then challenged Davy to repeat his Herculean effort and lug the anvil back down from the summit in exchange for a substantial donation to the charity. As expected, Davy rose to the task and a seriously sophisticated cocktail was born.
